Wii

I finally broke down. Karl has suggested getting a game system numerous times during our marriage, but I didn't want one. I didn't want another excuse to sit around the tv.
At New Years Jordan and Eric brought over their Wii, and I saw how much fun it was, and how active it was. So when we got our deposit from our apartment back we decided to get a Wii. We also said that as soon as we saw a Wii Fit for sale that we would buy one. That happened on Saturday. So I have now been doing Wii Fit for 4 days. Some days I've exercised more than others, but I'm enjoying having it. So is the rest of my family.
Hopefully this will help me start to lose weight, because I'm one of those people who has to eat right AND exercise to lose weight. If anyone wants to compete with me for some type of prize, let me know. I do better when I know I'm competeing against someone.

I'm doing something right.

Often as a parent I feel inadequate and am sure that my kids will grow up awful, other times I think I'm doing ok, and once in a while I think my kids will grow up just right. I had one of those last moments on Wednesday night.
Karl and I were at a Ward dinner, and the boys were in the Nursery. About halfway into dinner two of the Young Women from the Nursery came and told us that Kaleb had a gash above his eye and was bleeding pretty badly. I went to the Nursery to check and sure enough he was bleeding. I asked what had happened and they said they didn't know. He was playing happily and they looked over and he was bleeding. When they asked him what happened he started crying.
What they didn't say was that they freaked out when they saw the blood, and so he followed their example. He didn't care enough about the blood to cry, or stop playing. How cool is that? I think Karl and I are doing something right.

(Yes, Kaleb is fine, it had mostly clotted within 10 minutes or so.)

I got to do something I didn't know I've always wanted to do!

Last week I got a phone call asking me to be a judge at a Star Events competition. I thought it would be cool, so I did it. I couldn't figure out why I was so excited about doing it until I did some thinking.
When I was in high school and did the make it with wool contest I remembered being somewhat envious of the judges. Something about them having enough expertise that they would be asked to judge the contest. So the fact that I would have enough expertise to judge a contest like that never occured to me. Even though in all seriousness you don't have to have tons of experience, it made me feel good to be asked.
So now I've been a judge at a sewing competition. How cool is that?

I got a WHAT?

Last week I turned in a paper for one of my classes. I had been dreading the paper and therefore procrastinated. I started it Friday afternoon, worked for about 30 minutes, then left to do some things. When I got home after 10:00 pm I started working on it again and finished the 3-5 page paper. It was exactly 3 pages long. I didn't feel very good about it, but by that time it was past midnight and I knew I had hours of class the next day to sit through, so I went to bed. I turned it in and thought, maybe I'll get a C.
Yesterday I got the paper back and I was amazed. I got an A, 95%. The teacher wrote a comment at the end: "Very nicely argued, with a clear statement and summary."
Did she read the paper I wrote?
I know that I have a tendency to think less of the things I do than other people do, but I'm amazed that a paper I thought was crap the teacher actually thought was good. If you want to read it and give me your opinion I'll email it to you. Just be aware that the topic was: Colonization was the making of Africa. Agree or disagree (I disagreed).

Persistence

Today we learned a little about persistence. I have called Provo School District at least 4 times about getting Kaleb into preschool. I know I've said on each phone call that he was in preschool in Springville and we needed to get him into preschool soon. Each time the person took my information and said they would have the right person call me back. They didn't.
I've been stressed about our sewer problem, so I figured I would worry about it later. Karl decided to do something about it today. He called and the person he talked to wanted him to just leave a message, which he wouldn't do. So she got the right person to talk to and Karl told her we want to get Kaleb back in Preschool. Apparently the messages she had received said we just had concerns about his speech, which is different from a child who already has had testing and an IEP.
All we have to do to get him in school is take a copy of his IEP and some other papers to the school and they'll schedule him starting. Why couldn't the first person I talked to have told me that?

I spent most of today working on unpacking. I'm really happy with how much I got unpacked. I have 29 empty boxes from today, not to mention another couple from last week. I'm not sure where all of it went, but I think I'll be able use my sewing room now.
On Saturday I got a box of books unpacked. They are the books I love to read over and over. I think a good way to explain how I feel having them out is that I'm surrounded by my friends.
I love how comfortable the house is. We have more space and the house is well planned. Karl says it is efficient. He can get ready for work about 15 minutes faster here than he could in our apartment.
