Animal Fair

Long long ago, in a village there used to be held an annual animal fair where only elephants, horses and sheep used to be sold. During one year the price-list in the fair was as follows:-

One Elephant --- $5
One Horse --- $1
Twenty Sheep --- $1

A merchant sent his servant with $100 to the fair and instructed him to buy 100 animals with the money....but the condition was that there had to be at least one animal of each kind in the lot and there must be no money left over.
How did the servant go about carrying out his task ?

Good Week

This past week has been very busy. My sister Lydia came to visit and we did stuff together almost everyday. We went clothes shopping, fabric shopping and food shopping. We sewed her daughter's easter dresses (or at least started them). We had a tea party, with some pretty good desserts, got pictures of her kids taken and in general just enjoyed being together. Kaleb and Von enjoyed playing with their cousins. They have been catching up on sleep since the cousins left. It was good to spend time with them.
Because last week was so busy, my house was neglected a little. So I've been working on cleaning it today. Luckily my husband is less picky about a clean house than I am, which helps a lot.
I was busy with Lydia last week and Karl had a lot of homework to do. This meant that I had very little "Karl Time". After class on Saturday I came home and spent time with Karl before I went to pick up the boys. Even though we didn't really accomplish anything the time alone with him was great. It will be nice when the semester is over and he only has classes 2 days each week instead of 4.
Another fun thing this weekend is that we bought a digital scale. I'm really excited about it. I never know for sure how much I'm losing on my old scale, so now it will be easier to keep track.
Overall- a good week.

I've really been enjoying making cakes lately. Karla's daughter's birthday party was this week and I made a Gryffindor Wizard Hat for it. You can't really tell in the picture, but I even rounded the edge to make it look more like a hat. The second cake was made out of leftover cake and frosting for my sweetie.

God's Plan

A few weeks ago my ward had a Relief Society Birthday Party. At it we had a really cool speaker. I think her name was Judy Brummel. She was one of the people who translated the Book of Mormon into the clicking language. The theme of her talk has really hit me, and I keep thinking about it.
She talked about how God has a plan, things in life aren't just coincidence. She had a quite a few examples from her life. Since then I've been noticing things from my life that could just be considered coincidence, but I think they're part of God's plan for me.
Some examples are:
Having the deaf ward in our stake while growing up. Because of this the cub scouts and later the boy scouts from the deaf ward joined our ward for activities. Sometimes I would go with my parents and try to talk with Bridgette(who is deaf). I ended up learning some sign language to communicate with her and eventually went on an ASL mission. How cool is that? I'm sure in the future that experience will continue to help me.
Not getting married right after high school. That was my plan and I was pretty frustrated that it didn't happen the way I had planned. However, I grew up considerably in the 4 years after high school and had some awesome experiences during that time. I was looking for different things in a husband when I got home from my mission than I was when I finished high school. They were little differences, but those differences have made a huge difference.

I'm know there are more, but I don't have time to write them all. It's amazing to see what the Lord has done...Isn't that a line from a hymn?

Gas

We had something fun happen today. This afternoon Kaleb turned the gas on the stove, but didn't light it. I noticed it and turned it off. But the gas smell was pretty strong in the air. I wasn't thinking clearly and decided to just leave and it
would clear out by the time I got home from school. I should have opened the windows first.
Karl got home before I did and was greeted by the smell of gas when he walked in, so he called the gas company to come check for a leak. While he was waiting for the gas guy to come I got home and told him what had happened earlier. By the time the gas guy got here the gas had vented out(Karl opened the windows and doors). The gas guy checked out everything just to make sure it was ok. I'm glad he did. He had to turn off our furnace because it isn't safe to have on, plus some other things that just need to get fixed.
So hopefully either tonight or tomorrow morning our furnace will be working much better and if we're lucky our gas usage will go down...we can hope.

Tonight Karl and I were talking about caskets and he brought up an interesting idea. Wouldn't a Lego Casket be cool? We'd like your opinions on this extremely important matter...

Fruit Names

Jordan made a comment on my last blog about fruit names, so I thought I would explain those. In high school we had a lot of guy friends. We wanted to be able to talk about them without them knowing who they were. Some had reasons that made sense, others just were for fun. I don't remember all of the reasons, but here are some examples of the fruits we used and their reasons (for the ones I remember).
Apple- A nice, good guy.
Peach- he was always trying to grow a beard but couldn't, so he always had peach fuzz.
Pineapple- One of my favorite fruits, and the heart is the best part.
Washington Apple- He was from Washington
Grapefruit- One of my friend's boyfriends, and it was her favorite fruit.
Bananna- He was tall.
Mexican Banannas- They aren't good fresh, and they aren't much better cooked.
Fig- Not really that good.
Grape- He was in great shape.
Mango- Exotic, but not as good as you're expecting.
Those are the ones I remember right now, I'll include more later, or if Jordan wants to include some she can.

Still Cleaning this Gun

I hear this song and it makes me think of an experience I had in high school. A guy came to pick me up for a date and Dad was in the living room cleaning a gun. If that had been all I think the guy would have been ok. But there were some scouts there too, and they all were cleaning guns as well.
It was perfect timing, the guy was really scared to ask me out again (which I was really happy about).

Ugly Boots

My brother-in-law is staying in a really small place, and doesn't have room for all of his stuff. So it is in our shed. Recently my mother-in-law went through her storage shed and found more of his stuff and gave it to me to put with the rest of his things. Among the stuff was a pair of boots. I was amazed at how ugly they were and so I took a picture to show how ugly they are.

I know they might look better if they were clean, but I think it is amazing that someone could take cowboy boots, which I usually love, and make them into partial tennis shoes. Apparently there was only a limited number of them made, so my brother-in-law wanted them. Why do you think there was a limited number made?
